Its Time to Do Some Christmas Shopping!!

This year it is my goal to support small businesses during the holidays. I made gifts for many of my friends and family and now I am planning on supporting a small business and getting one more small thing for each one of them. Today some of my photo cards are featured on a BNR on Etsy. This is my first experience with a BNR and it has been a blast so far! A BNR is called a buy and replace. I started out featured so I did not have to buy anything. But, if any of you Etsy shoppes out there are interested in getting featured it is only a $5 buy in. All you have to do is purchase any $5 item from any shop featured and then you bump that person's item out of the collection and one of your items gets to replace it. My wonderful team of co-sellers is up against a much more experienced team trying to out sell them for more free spots in the next round! So far so good it is very close! Let's Enjoy Fall for a Little Longer

I know it is almost December and in many places in the world winter is in full swing but here on the Palouse the weather is still very autum-esque. Fall in Moscow, Idaho is undoubtedly the most beautiful time of the year. The trees turn vibrant colors and the sunlight makes the entire town glow. The University of Idaho campus is especially radiant in October and November. I had a blast a few nights ago wandering around campus capturing the colors of the leaves in the soft evening light. I brought Tank (my Cocker Spaniel) along for the adventure and he enjoyed sniffing every inch of our journey. The setting sun cast shadows on the leaves, enhancing their texture. This made creating clear detailed shots with gorgeous contrast a breeze. It was one of those evenings where the light was so perfect you could not take your eye out of the viewfinder.

Oil Painting Prints

Life has been very busy over the last few weeks. I have joined forces with fellow Etsy shoppers who are also embarking on their first Etsy holiday season. We have learned a ton from each other and GriffingPhotography continues to improve every day. My latest project has been editing pictures to appear as oil paintings. This is not just as simple as applying a filter to a photo. There is quite a bit of top secret underlying work that must be done in order for it to look truly unique. My new shop section, Oil Painting Photo Prints is up and running. Check it out and let me know what you think!

Note Notecards 2.1

Today I did not get to spend as much time working on Etsy as I had hoped but I did manage to complete all of the note cards and get another set listed. Tomorrow my goal is to list the remaining 11 sets. Hopefully with the holiday season coming up people wanting to send notes to loved ones will show some interest in these fun cards.

My parents come into town on Thursday! The vandals have a double header swim meet and they are coming to watch us compete. Coming all the way from Kodiak, Alaska is a long and expensive trop so this does not happen very often. Meets in our home pool are a blast and I am looking forward to them being able to experience one.

New Notecards!

Over the last 24 hours I have been very busy creating my new product line Notecards!!! They have been a blast to create and will hopefully generate some new sales. The three in the link are the only ones I have listed so far but there are 40 more to come! These can be used as thank you notes, general stationary, or holiday themed cards.

The photography market on Etsy is rather saturated so I am hoping that offering something other then photo prints will help set me apart from the rest of the sellers. Anyways I have to be up at 5:00 am for swim practice tomorrow so its off to bed for me but check out the new notecards and comment to let me know what you think!

metrocottage & vintagejanewear

Unfortunately while I was meticulously setting up my shots for my "behind the scene photos" I completely lost the daylight. Too much time spent making sure there was not dust on the desk or ugly cords sticking out out, not enough time spent actually taking pictures. I still managed to get one or two useable shots which I will use for today but I hope to re-take them tomorrow to get a few crisper images with more light.

While I was working taking photos I got a phone call from the wonderful Laurie who owns the vintage Etsy shops metrocottage and vintagejanewear. She gave me some wonderful ideas to expand my market and improve my shop as well as helped me with a few technical difficulties that had been driving me nuts for WEEKS!!! Keep an eye out for photo cards and a few other new products that will be added in the upcoming weeks thanks to Laurie's guidance.

Anyways, I highly encourage everyone to check out metrocottage  and vintagejanewear found at the links below. If you are looking for some great vintage storage bins, home decor, stationary, clothing, jewelry or much more she has it at metrocottage or vintagejanewear!

Facebook Page

One more thing before I dive into the world of shop improvement! GriffingPhotography's brand new Facebook page is now available for viewing at: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Griffing-Photography check it out, like it, and let me know what you think!

"About" GrifingPhotography

Today's task at hand is getting down and dirty editing GriffingPhotography's "about page". I plan to:

  • Completely revise my "shop story" and talk more about my creative process, and inspirations
  • Take pictures of myself working in the "studio" aka desk in the corner of the bedroom (meaning I actually have to get dressed on a Saturday AND make the bed, tis complete blasphemy)
  • Give viewers a bit more of a window into me as a person
  • Have fun, Be positive, and figure out how to promote this blog, and or get it to show up in a search result or two so someone actually reads it!
Happy Saturday everyone! stay tuned for photos, and a link to the completed project!
